Dear Fellow Supports of the Mountain State,
Greetings and welcome to another Washington summer! Be sure grab your bathing suits and get out of the heat for a few minutes. Better yet, join the State Society for the annual celebration of West Virginia’s birthday. The event on June 16th is sure to be a blast. For those of you that attended last year’s event, you remember that the WV Division of Tourism was a terrific event sponsor, providing decorations, “goodie” bags, and refreshments. This year, partnered with the Department of Agriculture, the Tourism folks plan to outdo themselves with food and wine produced in the Mountain State! To add even more excitement, our special guest will be the First Lady of West Virginia, Gayle Manchin! We hope to see you on Capitol Hill!
I am also excited about our fall event. It brings back a time-honored tradition of the West Virginia State Society. The event will also feature a silent auction of West Virginia products. This summer my fellow officers and I are contacting businesses throughout West Virginia for donations—expect to bid on some great stuff! It is sure to be a fabulous event…stay tuned for more exciting details.
On a more serious note, the West Virginia State Society was, to put it simply, broke just a short time ago. The current officers and I continue our quest to make this organization a great one, but we need your help. Many of the events we hold are free to you. However, someone has to pay the bill for room, refreshments, etc. So please join the State Society as a member and pay membership dues. Also, please consider coming to our fall event and bidding on a silent auction item. This event will be our big fundraiser of the year, so we need a great turnout. Finally, ask your business to consider sponsoring a State Society event in the future.
I look forward to seeing you for the Birthday Celebration. Until then, check out the newly-uploaded photos for our Christmas Social, as well as the pictures of from our 2009 Cherry Blossom Reception.
