Dear Fellow West Virginians,

Welcome to official website of The West Virginia State Society of Washington D.C.!  We hope that you find this site a fun, exciting, and useful resource.  The goals of the website are to provide information on the State Society and to encourage membership and participation.  The website will provide a schedule of upcoming events, as well as the opportunity to order tickets to these enjoyable events.  The website also enables visitors to join the State Society or to renew membership.  Please visit the website to view our seasonal newsletters as well.

Let me also take this opportunity to highlight some of the recent State Society events, and notify you of the upcoming events.  This year the State Society hosted its first West Virginia State of the Union Reception, and it was a huge success.  Thanks to all the West Virginians and friends of the state who came out to meet before the State of the Union.  It was a well-attended event, and it was wonderful to have several of the long-time members of the State Society in attendance.  It was also exciting to see several new faces participating in the event.  Particular thanks goes to Congressman Mollohan, Congressman Rahall, and Congresswoman Capito for attending the event.  We were also fortunate to have corporate sponsorship for the event, and we want to especially thank DOW Chemical, GolinHarris, Jackson Kelly PLLC, Key Staffing Solutions, Bailey & Glasser, LLP, Arch Coal, Foundation Coal, Wheeling Jesuit University, Chesapeake Energy, Aubrey C. King & Associates, Home Safety Council and West Virginia University Research and Economic Department for their generous contributions.  We look forward to everyone’s continued support and participation in the West Virginia State Society.

Looking ahead, please mark your calendars for April 10, 2008, when we host the West Virginia Cherry Blossom Princess Reception.  This reception takes place in conjunction with the National Conference of State Societies’ Cherry Blossom Festival, and it is always a good time.  This year we are pleased to announce that Miranda Kessel will be the West Virginia Cherry Blossom Princess, and will represent the state at several events throughout cherry blossom week.  Please come to the reception to meet Miranda and to celebrate this spring tradition in the Nation’s Capitol.

In closing, it promises to be a fun and exciting year – the State Society Board is already planning more exciting events.  Please come back to the website often, and please join us at the events.

Thank you!

Theresa M. Phipps
